Celebrity Big Brother UK!

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

So, I’ve never watched the other versions of Big Brother before, not even the UK version. I know, I’m so late to the game! There’s no time like the present, right? This round is Celebrity Big Brother, and they’ve chosen 11 celebs, including three Americans of the ultra d-list type fame. Who are our ‘locals’ in the house?

Coolio.
Yes. Coolio, who was pleased to tell everyone that his recent physical said he had the heart, lungs, liver and sexual performance of a 25 year old. I know, I’m impressed too, aren’t you? Don’t you wanna just run in and hump his leg? Yeah baby. He’s hoping someone wants him too, though - as he wants attractive gals attracted to him so he “might get some”. Be still my beating heart..

LaToya Jackson
Yes. That LaToya. And what the hell is wrong with her face? Seriously? And the way she laughs? OMG. No 52 year old I know laughs like a chipmunk on crack like she does. I wanted to smack her within the first five minutes. Her bio also cracks me up - never used her fame to get anything, but can’t live without bottled water. Alrighty then. Apparently Jermaine did Celebrity Big Brother 5, too. Those Jacksons. Can’t ever get rid of them…

And completing the American D-List Trifecta, we have Verne.
Yeah. Mini-Me. Didn’t he do the Surreal Life too? He thinks it’ll be like summer school, and already has shared stories of getting drunk with Coolio, and…

yeah. These are the three American “celebrities” that they get to spend four weeks in the British Big Brother House. They join a variety of Celebs from England, Scotland and Ireland, from a topless glamour model, to an actress to a politician.

And if CBBUK isn’t your bag of tea - hit up QuirkyDude’s Youtube - he’s got BB1, and BB4, and BB5 all up and running!

Big Brother 8 UK - The Newest Race Row

Friday, June 8th, 2007

I’m sure you’ve read about the newest race-related scandal on Big Brother UK, but if you haven’t Dave at Pop Buzz UK has the actual transcript of the conversation that led to Emily being removed from the house.

As a result, Channel 4 is being both heralded for stepping up and taking action and reprimanded for airing the offensive comments. Good grief - they can’t win. If they hadn’t aired it, then Emily’s removal would have been puzzling to anyone who doesn’t keep up with what happens in the house outside of the televised episodes.

The fallout in the media was inevitable too. Emily’s uncle, in an article entitled “Big Brother Emily Disowned,” told The Mirror that the comment she made was “completely disgusting and distasteful.” He goes on to say that “her parents will be devastated.” No mention of being “disowned” by any of her family, of course.

I’m sure the production staff is hoping that the race issue will be forgotten when two more men enter the house this evening.

Big Brother 8 UK Update

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

The first male has entered the house, and he’s a model who goes by the name Ziggy. The ladies are thrilled to have him there - or at least they were until it was announced that Ziggy would be the only person to be making nominations for eviction next week.

The producers of this show are deliciously evil, setting the women up like this. I think we all know where it’s headed, don’t we? The girls, at least the younger ones anyway, will be throwing themselves at their new hunky housemate to avoid being nominated. Since women are notoriously catty, competitive, and underhanded on shows like this, we’re in for some true bitchiness.

Dave over at Pop Buzz UK is a fellow Big Brother addict, and he’s written up his impressions of the housemates this season. It’s a witty and entertaining read, so check it out!

Big Brother 8 Launches in the UK

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Some would argue that the British version of Big Brother has much better twists than its US cousin. They do get the Celebrity installment, after all!

Season 8 of Big Brother UK kicked off last night, and brought in some pretty great ratings. According to Reuters, over 8 million fans tuned in for the premiere. So what’s the twist for this season? All eleven houseguests are female!

Tomorrow night three men will be eligible to enter the house, with only one being asked to move in. The eleven ladies already in the house will choose which man will join them. Wow. I don’t know that I’d want to be that man! Can you imagine living in a house with eleven women that you don’t know? I’m a woman myself, and I’m pretty sure I’d want to stay far away from that kind of situation.

Among the current cast are a pair of 18-year-old twins (who have to be more tolerable than our own Fitness Twins from season 5), a 19-year-old who is obsessed with Victoria Beckham, and a 53-year-old woman who is very actively anti-war and seems to be quite opinionated. Oh, and there’s also a girl who claims that she and her sisters are known as the “Hilton sisters of London.” Now there’s something to be proud of.
