Private Schools vs. State Schools: Why I Prefer Private Schools

We live in a time where you can’t start early enough preparing your children for our very competitive job market. The best thing you can do while your children are growing up is to make sure that they can get the best education.

In my opinion, the state schools here in the UK are often lacking. At times it seems to me as if our public schools are, let me find the right expression, “second choice” when I compare them to what most private schools have to offer.

Not only are state schools often limited in their variety of what they can offer to the children, in particular when it comes to extracurricular activities. What I saw in public schools can only be described as disheartening.

For starters, teachers as well as students often seem to be stressed out, mainly due to the fact that classrooms are often helplessly overcrowded. It makes a big difference whether a teacher has 20 students or 40 per class. With that many students in many of our public schools, it is no surprise when weaker students are often left out. Teachers simply can’t focus on those students that would actually need more help.  From that point of view, public schools are a poor choice for some students.

But the advantages of private schools go further than that.

I have seen it myself how employers today give those applicants who come from good private schools a preference.

Let me give you a simple example: if there are two job applicants for a particular position which are otherwise equal in terms of their experience and skills, but one of them has a good school on his or her CV, which one of the two think likely to get the job? The employer will in all likelihood pick the one who attended a private school.

Let me assure you, this is not just speculation on my part. A recent report in the UK revealed how most of our doctors and politicians, as well as those in other professions who are top earners have attended a private school in the past. In other words, it is now proven fact that private schools are beneficial for your children’s career.
